Introducing
Innovative Resources
'Our
resources work as reminders of things that are important-our strengths,
self-esteem, values, relationships and the ways we learn and grow.'

St
Luke’s Innovative Resources publishes and sells seriously
optimistic card packs, books, stickers and posters that can
change people’s lives. Our original, high-quality resources
have grown out of the strengths-based
social work services offered by St
Luke’s, Australia.
These resources have become essential items in the ‘tool
kits’ of teachers, parents, social workers, counsellors,
managers, psychologists, and childcare professionals worldwide.
They can be found in classrooms, institutes of sport, jails, boardrooms,
employment programs, team building seminars and even fire stations.

When you imagine a publishing house, what pictures come to mind?
One common image is that of numerous back rooms with titles like
‘editor’, ‘publishing director’ ‘production
manager’ and ‘art department’ written on the
doors. And inside the offices will be harried staff tripping over
metre-high piles of manuscripts, trying to find their desks and
mumbling ‘deadlines’, ‘printers’, ‘over
budget’, and so on.
And yes, as one of the few social work publishers in the known
universe, Innovative Resources bears more than a fleeting resemblance
to this picture. But we have some idiosyncrasies as well.
Firstly, we have our own bookshop which might more accurately
be called a ‘resource centre’ because it contains
lots of other things apart from books—puppets, card sets,
posters, games, anatomically correct dolls, CDs and DVDs, greeting
cards and curiosities (i.e. Russell, the managing director).
But secondly, we spend a lot of time out of the office running
our ‘seriously optimistic’ workshops—giving
participants hands-on experiences of using our materials. As well
as conducting numerous local training events, we have run workshops
across Australia and New Zealand, in Japan, Europe, India and
the USA.
