The Travelling Toolshed

The Travelling Toolshed provides windows into the principles of Strengths based practice by exploring an array of innovative Resources’ original publications that have grown out of or been inspired by the social work practice at St Luke’s. In these two days you will be introduced to new and inventive tools that can be used with many different client groups, in supervision, in teamwork, in teaching and in organisational culture-building. Be prepared to laugh, cry and be surprised - but relax - there are no role plays!

Soulful Melancholy – Why feeling sad is no reason not to be happy  

Facilitated by Karen Masman

What are the gifts of sadness? How can we learn to navigate sad times more skillfully? What part does sadness play in learning how to be happy? What are the differences between sadness and depression?  Using Journal writing, images, conversations and other creative tools, this interactive workshop aims to enhance our capacity to transmute sadness using the seven phases of Soulful Melancholy explored in Karen’s book “The Uses of Sadness”.
